What is coaching?

At Solitaire coaching we want you to achieve your goals, desires and dreams.

The following is a brief outline of the coaching process, what it involves, what it is not and how you can make the most of each coaching session.

There are many misconceptions about coaching – so let’s get them out of the way first.

Coaching is not counselling nor is it mentoring.

Unlike counselling in coaching sessions we will touch on your past, but we will not spend six sessions looking into the emotional healing of the past. Coaching is much more future focused. We work towards outcomes and moving forward, much more than looking backwards.

Unlike mentoring, a good coach will not be offering their opinion of a situation, nor will they be giving you advice. Coaching works on the fundamental belief that the client inherently knows the answers – it is the coaches job to raise the clients awareness to the point where they are able to recognise their own ‘best answers’ and to put them into action.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as:   “… partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential’. (https://coachfederation.org/code-of-ethics/)

Each client will have an initial assessment during which we will decide how we will work together and if there are any issues that may need address prior to coaching sessions. Should you currently be having any form of counselling or therapy it is advisable to finish your course of treatment prior to booking your coaching session.

Once our assessment appointment is complete we can then book a series of coaching sessions lasting around three quarters of an hour. Prior to each session you will be asked to think about your goals in order that we can stay focused on the actions that will allow you to make the most progress with your overall goals.

I have a range of tools that can help you identify and prioritise your goals should you need them.

Appointments are generally attended via SKYPE however, telephone appointments are also an option. I seldom offer face to face session however they can be arranged if necessary.

After our assessment appointment and before the start of our actual coaching sessions you will be asked to sign a contract and make your payments.

Should you wish to explore any of the above, please do feel free to drop me an email. You are not committing to anything, only once we have had our initial assessment appointment and agree to work together will you be sent a contract.
